In 1851 he resided at Farnley Tyas where he was a Tailors Apprentice. He married Jane Silverwood on 4th February 1861 at St Peter Church, Hoyland and had nine children, William, Lister, Sevilla, John, Mary Jane, Franklin, Sarah Alice, Robert & Ann. In 1861 the family were living at a Private House in Hoyland Nether, at Farnley Tyas Town in 1871, in 1881 at Smith Place, Honley and at Hall Ing, Honley, Farnley Tyas in 1891. He was a Tailor between 1861 & 1891.
