He married Anne Danforth on 31st May 1879 at Barnsley and they had seven children, George Herman, Maggie, John Henry, Clara Annie, David, Gladys & Nellie. The family resided at New Street, Wath on Dearne in 1881, in 1891 at 17, Healous Row, Worsbrough and in 1901 at 33, Excel Terrace, Colt Lane, Worsbrough. He was a Coal Miner between 1879 and 1901.

In 1891 she resided with her Parents and Siblings at 54, Church Road, Barton on Iswell, Eccles. She married Harold Bednal Silverwood in 1921 in the District of Manchester and had one child, Harold Lisle. Lily died on 17th December 1946 in the Bucklow District.
