He left school at the tender age of xx and began work at Wood's Glass Works as a Gatherer. As was compulsory in those days he was enlisted into the Army on 26th September 1946. After basic training and several postings he began his career as a Nursing Orderly on 31st July 1948. After he left the army his occupation on 15th December 1952 was as a Gatherer in a Glass Works. Frank married Catherine Theresa Mellor on 22nd December 1951 in St Mary Magdalene's Roman Catholic Church, Cudworth and commenced married life in 19 Lewis Road, Lundwood, Barnsley. They have four children, Christine, Stephen, Margaret & Frank. I'm not sure when he decided upon a change of career, probably because the Glass Works was closing, but he became a postman which was his last occupation before retiring. His family moved to a newer property in about 1952 to 143, Ollerton Road, Athersley North, Barnsley where we all lived until 1969 when we moved to 8, New Lodge Crescent, New Lodge Estate, Barnsley. Unhappily Frank and Catherine divorced on 14th June 1972 in Barnsley. My father was dogged by ill health in his later years, a severe case of shingles and appendicitis were just two symptoms. He eventually decided to retire in 1989 but his misfortunes were still with him when a year after he retired he had to have his leg amputated. He tried to keep his spirits up and eventually moved to 13 Selby Road, New Lodge Estate, Barnsley. Sadly Frank passed away on 14th January 1991 and was cremated at Arsdley Crematorium on 17th January 1991.
