Her father was said to be an army mule driver. She died on 10th October 1972 at 110, Chorlton Road, Keynsham and was buried at Keynsham Cemetery.

In 1901 he was a Coal Horse Driver underground before working in Forestry, then at Hudson's shop at Ruspidge. He returned to Colliery work but during the war worked as a cook in a forestry camp in Soudley Hill Winchcome. After the war he worked at Eastern United Colliery, Ruspidge and worked until he was 70 years of age. Sydney emigrated in 1971 to New Zealand, then Western Australia, to live with his son Colin. In 1973 he resided at a Care Home at Hamilton Hill where he died of Chronic Emphysematous Bronchitis, Prostatism, on 30th November 1974 and was cremated on 2nd December 1974 at Fremantle, Western Australia.
